Design a Theme Park is an immersive, project-based learning experience that places ages 9–12 in the role of a theme park designer. Across ten connected design stages, students develop an original park concept, create a brand, plan themed lands, invent attractions, assemble a large park map, manage a fictional development budget, set ticket prices, improve the guest experience, build a marketing campaign, and present the completed park to an audience.
This is not a collection of unrelated worksheets. Every activity contributes to one cohesive final result. Students make meaningful choices, work within constraints, explain their reasoning, test the park from different guests’ perspectives, revise weak decisions, and decide which ideas deserve a place on the final design board.
Designed for creative planners ages 9–12
The project works especially well for homeschool enrichment, project-based learning, independent study, co-op activities, project weeks, and children who enjoy imagining, drawing, planning, problem solving, business ideas, or creative world-building. Clear support labels tell families when work is independent, when an adult should remain nearby, when hands-on help is recommended, and when an audience is needed.

Imagine the Park — define the concept, target guest, intended feeling, and design vision.

The completed project includes an original park, a four-page master map, balanced budget, ticket strategy, guest-experience plan, advertisement, final design board, and Opening-Day Pitch—work the student can display, explain, and proudly claim as their own.
Simple setup with ordinary supplies
Use a printer, standard paper, pencil, colored pencils or crayons, child-safe scissors, glue or a glue stick, clear tape, a ruler, and scrap paper. Poster board, cardboard, index cards, sticky notes, building bricks, string, and recycled craft materials are optional. A 3D model is never required.
Conceptual design only: ride concepts, costs, prices, and accessibility activities are fictional learning exercises. Students do not engineer real amusement rides or prepare construction plans.
