Capable Foundations: Middle School Life Skills is a complete 144-day digital life-skills course for approximately ages 10–14 (grades 5–8). Through clear explanations, realistic examples, guided practice, and hands-on Life Skill Labs, students learn how to manage themselves, communicate well, care for a home, make thoughtful money decisions, respond safely, and prepare for growing independence.
Middle school is the ideal time to begin practicing the skills students will need long before they are expected to manage adult life on their own. Capable Foundations gives them a thoughtful, age-appropriate place to practice those skills — with realistic situations, clear boundaries, and no guesswork about what to do next.
This is a life-skills course, not a full academic curriculum. It works alongside any homeschool program, private school, public school, co-op, or family learning plan. The course includes exactly 144 numbered instructional days, organized into 36 four-day Life Skill Labs. Each lab moves the student from understanding a skill to practicing it, applying it, and creating something useful for a personal Life Skills Portfolio.
How each Life Skill Lab works
Every four-day lab follows a predictable structure. On Learn It day, the student reads a concise explanation and studies a complete example. On Practice It day, the student works through the skill with supplied facts, scripts, steps, or calculations. On Use It day, the student applies the process to a realistic situation. On Life Lab day, the student combines the week's learning into a named project, checks it against a clear rubric, and adds it to the Life Skills Portfolio.
Two ways to complete all 144 days
Both pacing options use the same 144 lessons in the same order — families simply choose the schedule that fits their season of life. The One-Year Path covers one lesson per day, four days per week, for 36 weeks: a focused, complete middle-school life-skills year. The Four-Year Path covers one lesson per week across four 36-week years: a steady life-skills strand through grades 5–8. A family beginning around age 10 can finish near age 13 or 14 without repeating material.

Independent without being left on their own
Students can complete most reading, writing, scenarios, calculations, and portfolio work independently. Adults do not need to invent examples, interpret unclear directions, or decide what counts as complete. When a lesson involves real money, private information, tools, appliances, online contact, or health concerns, it clearly explains when an adult must review, approve, or supervise.
Families do not need to purchase an outside book, subscription, bank account, smartphone, or job experience to complete the written course.
Give your student more than a collection of worksheets. Give them a structured path for practicing the everyday skills that support confidence, good judgment, responsibility, and growing independence.
144 days. Two flexible pacing options. One practical foundation for life.
